Thomas Harbin

Thomas H. Harbin. Harbin was a Confederate mail agent who worked on the Virginia side of the Potomac opposite Charles County, MD. Harbin had been introduced to John Wilkes Booth in 1864 by Dr. Mudd, and he entered into the abduction plot. Harbin was alos the brother-in-law of Thomas A. Jones, the man who tended to the assassins in the pine thicket and sent them across the river. When Booth and Herold arrived in Virginia and Herold walked to Mrs. Quesenberry’s, she sent for Harbin to meet the pair. Harbin brought Booth and Herold food from Mrs. Qusenberry and then directed them to William Bryant, who could take them to Dr. Stuart’s. Whether William Bryant was a Confederate agent of Harbin’s or an oblivious farmer is debatable.
