The ferry boat that once ran between Port Conway and Port Royal. After the creation of the James Madison Memorial Bridge in the 1930’s, the ferry was no longer needed. The back of this pictures notes that this is the same ferry Booth and Herold would have taken, but that is unlikely as the ferry changed hands a few times and improved somewhat as time went on. Still it is possible.
