Joseph Booth at Medical College 1861

After finding no interest in being an actor like his brothers, Joseph Booth enrolled in medical school in Charleston, South Carolina. After the start of the Civil War in 1861, the school was shut down and Joseph apparently joined the troops attacking Fort Sumter as an army surgeon. His service to the Confederacy was very brief and after the battle he returned home to Baltimore.
