I remember it saying that when I was working on this picture gallery. Harvard isn’t 100% with their identifications and I think this image more greatly favors a young Wilfred than Creston. Look at this pic and then the next picture of Wilfred and tell me it’s not the same person.
Here’s another example of Harvard’s identification problems. They have the same picture identified as both Sydney Barton Booth and Junius Brutus Booth III:
It took me awhile to figure out that the above picture is Junius Brutus Booth III. I only figured that out because they have a picture of Sydney, who was younger, taken at the same time and in the same chair. However they also have that photo misidentified as Junius Brutus Booth III when it should be Sydney:
I’ll double check again. I just saw an older image of Wilfred from a 1928 press photo. I just asked my friend to verify the photo if she thinks it’s also our Wilfred. If it is I’m getting the photo for my collection. 🙂
The Harvard Theatre Collection website says this image is Creston Clarke. http://via.lib.harvard.edu/via/deliver/fullRecordDisplay?_collection=via&inoID=11996&recordNumber=2&fullgridwidth=7&method=view&recordViewFormat=grid

So, I take Harvard’s identifications with a grain of salt and tend to trust my own eyes more.
